The adventures of Washington, D.C., power ladies Sherise, Billie, and Erica continue, with some surprises and plenty of drama in Winters' (Nothing to Lose, 2013) newest addition to her popular series. Sherise is about to be named press secretary to the president-elect she slaved for, only to find that obnoxious Maurice has been brought in and is now her boss. Sherise's story of power and politics is all too believable. Billie is delighted to become engaged to Michael, only to have a scheming family and ex-girlfriend intervene. Erica can't come to terms with her biological father's death and his will. She goes on a spending spree, alienates her family, and pushes her long-standing friendships close to the breaking point. These intelligent ladies have strong appeal, so readers will want to read previous books in the D.C. series to catch up. It is fun to get to know Winters' characters as they deal with their mistakes and manipulative strategies, and readers will be eager for the next adventure. Fans of Daaimah Poole may also enjoy Winters.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
